The Gaming Commission (GC) was established by the Gambling Act. The GC is the official regulator of the gambling industry. The GC's main task is to ensure channelling to legal gambling, with the primary aim of protecting players.
To carry out that command, the GC:
- provides advice to the Government and Parliament on all matters related to games of chance and the protection of players;
- grants the licenses necessary for the operation of games of chance and betting and ensures proactive management;
- has a monitoring function with regard to compliance with the provisions of the Gambling Act and has the power to impose sanctions (warning, suspension or license revocation), including administrative fines.
The GC carries out its duties independently and is chaired by a magistrate. Since 2020, that is Mrs. Magali Clavie. The President forms the GC together with representatives (455.7 KB) "File"of six ministers (Justice - Finance - Economy - Public Health - Home Affairs - National Lottery), of which 1 each is Dutch-speaking and 1 French-speaking. Here you will find the internal code of conduct of the GC. It was endorsed by all members and approved by the six ministers concerned (only available in Dutch and French).
The GC can rely on a secretariat for its day-to-day operations. You can reach the secretariat on weekdays from 9:00 until 12:00 via 02 504 00 40 or via info@gamingcommission.be.
