The film Bluff! is a learning aid for young people aged 14 to 18. This pedagogical file guides them and is intended for everyone who comes into contact with young people, from educators to teachers.
The aim of the film and the file is to provide young people with elements that allow them to better understand the rules governing the game and to become aware of the risks of excessive practice of these games. Misrepresentation of the rules and unfamiliarity with their dangers can pose a risk to some young people. In addition, it is possible that they have already had to deal with such a problematic situation or with gambling addiction through relatives or acquaintances.
Games of chance are advertised a lot – in all kinds of media and especially on the internet. Poker, for example, is a very widespread game. The wide range of games on the internet contributes to teaching the game to young people.
Gambling has been around since time immemorial. But for those who misunderstand or mishandle the game, the game element can be lost. Then addiction sets in. Anyone can be affected by this, regardless of nationality, origin, religion or social class.
In terms of addiction, games of chance receive less attention than addictions to drugs. Still, the damage they inflict can be just as great. It is generally assumed that 1 to 2 % of the population suffers from the negative consequences of excessive gambling. Young people are not spared from these problems. The emergency services report a large number of consultations by young people aged 18 to 24. Good information to the young public and other preventive measures are therefore necessary.
