In recent years, the games of chance offering via the Internet and SMS services has grown. The Gaming Commission (GC) oversees the fairness of games, checks financial flows and guarantees the protection of players.
The GC opted for a system of supplementary licences: existing gaming establishments that already have a licence to operate games of chance in the real world can apply for a supplementary licence for the Internet. That way, we can ensure better control. The GC will then be closer to gaming establishments, and they will be less inclined to commit violations of the Gambling Act, as they would then also be risking their licence to operate in the real world.
Belgium has a favourable tax climate (11%) for operators of online gambling. Furthermore, the Gambling Act is transparent and in line with European law. Operators of online games of chance therefore make the right choice by being active on the Belgian games of chance market legally.
