1. www.gokhulp.be offers information and help to people with a gambling problem. Looking for help is often a big step for gamblers: feelings of shame, fear that they will be misunderstood and the persistent hope of solving their (financial) problems by gambling again. The website www.gokhulp.be is an easily accessible source of support for gamblers. It is free and completely anonymous.
www.gokhulp.be is in three sections:
- Information: Here you can find more explanation about games of chance and gambling problems. There is an FAQ section, information on available help, and visitors can post in a public forum. People who are close to problematic players and professional counsellors can also find a lot of tips and information here.
- Self-tests: A player with a gambling problem can anonymously sign up for the (free) self-help programme, which lasts from 3 to 12 weeks depending on the choice. Through a series of tasks, a problem player can try to reach their goal. People registering can also contact others in a similar situation through a secure forum. Exchanging experiences, sharing successful recovery stories and mutual support can be very valuable in the recovery process.
- Online counselling: Here you can get started online if you want to reduce or completely stop gambling, guided by a professional counsellor. You can participate in this online counselling programme completely anonymously.
2. The Kliniek voor speelverslaving (Clinic for Gambling Addiction) offers help to people who experience difficulties with gambling or controlling their gaming behaviour. You can find more information about the online counselling at: http://stopgokken.gokkliniek.be.
This programme consists of six modules. As a player, you can take stock of your gambling behaviour and find tips for setting certain goals and tools for achieving them.
The programme is available in both Dutch and French.
The Kliniek voor speelverslaving also provides advice to relatives on how best to deal with a problem player.
